Eternity! O, how dreadful and dire a word.

What a great mind its meaning to clear?

Ages and ages unknown to have adhered.

All so planned the Old Law has said.

If so cruel the burning of fire when occured,

And so tedious a year at the jail to bare,

So, I wonder about a moment spent there.

In that endless, furious flames so absurd,

Where all plead will be demurred,

Where all penance is too late to clear,

Where unknown ails come you to spear,

Where the beast himself will be head.

Oh! What is so vicious a place than hell?

Where all terrors eternally dwell.
