APPOINTMENT ON PROMOTION TO THE RANK OF ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR: PHILOMENA AMA OKYESO YEBOAH (PhD)

The Department of English, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, is delighted to announce the promotion of Philomena Ama Okyeso Yeboah (Mrs.), following the approval by the University Council in December 2025.

Philomena Ama Okyeso Yeboah (Mrs.), (PhD), currently serves as a Faculty member in the Department of English at KNUST. She is an alumnus of Fijai Senior High School, Sekondi, Takoradi. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and Classics from the University of Cape Coast, and a Master of Arts in Comparative Literature and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in English from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana.

Prof. (Mrs.) Philomena Ama Okyeso Yeboah specializes in Gender and Women in African Literature. Areas she has significantly contributed to through teaching and research include Ecocriticism, Children's Literature, Child Narratives, War Literature and Cultural Studies. She has over twenty (20) years of experience in teaching at the tertiary level. She is also an Assessor (Academic Auditing) of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).

Prof. (Mrs.) Yeboah has taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including 20th Century English Poetry, 20th Century English Novel, English Poetry in the 17th to 19th Centuries, Modern Poetry, Children’s Literature, The Study of Tragedy, Female Writers of Africa, American Literature and Literatures of the Black Diaspora. Additionally, she has contributed to the development of future leaders in English and Literature by supervising several undergraduate, master’s, and Ph.D. theses.

Prof. (Mrs.) Yeboah has actively participated in international conferences and workshops worldwide, and her research has appeared in reputable peer-reviewed journals. She has also served as Head of Department for two (2) academic years from January 2022 to October 2023. Under her leadership, the Department recorded significant growth, especially in its post-graduate graduation and visibility. 

The Department of English extends its warmest congratulations to Professor (Mrs.) Yeboah on this well-deserved promotion to the rank of Associate Professor of African Literature and Gender Studies and celebrates her scholarly contributions to the advancement of English and Literature education and research.
